I remember when

Billy the Milkman

We really want our retail range to inspire you, so we’ve looked deep into our heritage to see what has inspired and interested us over the years at the Dairy. We have decided to include some of those facts and stories on the inside wrapper of our pots to give you a better feel as to what we are about.

Whatever happened, we wonder, to Billy the Milkman who has a special place in our hearts? All those years ago he used to deliver large churns of fresh milk daily to our doorstep in central London for us to use in making our yogurts. You can imagine how funny this looked when everybody else on the street had bottles.

It’s been a memorable journey over the years and we hope that the “I remember when” tales on the inner wrap of the product packs will help you to share our experience.

Did you know?

We like to keep you well informed so we have included a variety of facts on the inner wrap of our yogurts to entertain and enlighten you. Here are a few tasters to get you interested.

  • Although it was too early in history for a TV advertising campaign, the ‘slow transit’ laxative cleansing effect of yogurt (on the intestines) was promoted by renowned ancient Greek doctor, Galino, in 2 BC.
  • The people at Tims Dairy wonder whether ancient cave drawings will one day be discovered featuring yogurt pots to support the view that yogurt originates from the Neolithic period when man first began to milk animals. Yogurt was produced when a clay pot full of warm milk was contaminated by a mixture of organisms that thrived in it.
  • Calcium is an essential nutrient for us all. The calcium content of yogurt is particularly beneficial to children and teenagers (promoting growth), to breast feeding mothers and to the elderly (helping to prevent osteoporosis).
  • Greek yogurt is typically made with cow’s or sheep’s milk. It contains 9% - 10% milk fat which gives it a smooth, creamy mouth feel and texture.
